"If Only I Knew Then... What I Know Now"

We would like to share some thoughts from one of our valued EMMETT Therapists...Thank you Michelle.

"As we grow older I believe there would be many of us who wish we had the skills and knowledge we have developed now many years ago. Back in 2008 I had one of the biggest tasks in my complimentary health career.

I was the designated nurse, remedial massage therapist and equine massage therapist for the 2008 Paralympic Dressage Team.

This involved the lead up to international competitions and the Paralympics panning over 3 years.

My job description included treating riders, their carers, their horses and the team workers such as the coach, assistant coach, manager and the physio.

This was an enormous task for anyone. My formal qualifications then were Bachelor of nursing and Diploma of remedial massage. Remedial massage can be as you know quite taxing on the therapist and usually requires a lot of strength and fitness. Equine massage even more so as you are working with your arms at shoulder height for a lot of the time. Hence my days were very very busy and quite often I could not get to everyone that needed treatment.

I cannot deny that it was one of the most amazing opportunities in my life and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment but it certainly took its toll on my body.

In hind sight I was as productive as I could possibly have been be but still people went untreated due to lack of time. In addition, I unfortunately I developed "tennis elbow" which took 5 months to resolve itself. Being self- employed that impacted my earning capacity.

Here we are in 2015, I have completed Emmett Practitioner EP1 for humans and module 1 ( about to do module 2) Emmett 4 Horses and I can't help but think how different those 3 years could have been. "if only I knew then what I know now".

The amazing techniques I have learnt from Ross Emmett and his instructors have complimented my treatments as a therapist by allowing me to treat more clients with better outcomes for the clients and myself..

I now believe I am a combined therapist and use the techniques relevant to the individual to decrease their pain, improve their balance and posture and achieve endless more positive outcomes.

The Emmett Technique provides practitioners with the opportunity to treat clients in approximately 15-30 minutes, fully clothed and for the majority of the time either seated or standing. Can you imagine how much more productive I could have been at the Paralympics if I had have known this amazing technique.

The results I am achieving with the Emmett Technique in my clinic now far outweigh the results I was getting from just remedial massage. The pressure on my body has decreased significantly, hence extending my career, and the clients don't need to endure that hard muscle stripping or deep tissue which can be very painful.

The Emmett Technique is so subtle and quick that I could have treated the riders and horses ringside just before their competition and perhaps enhanced their overall performance."
